This is the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill forum--if you are asking about Charlotte, you need to go to the Charlotte forum .

Well, are you more of a city type or do you want to be in the country? I live in the Rowan County area which is located between Raleigh and Charlotte (an hour closer to Charlotte). We are close enough that we can visit when we need to, but can avoid the big city traffic, etc. You can rent a nice house in this area for between $650 to $1200 per month. I am currently renting a four year old, 2100 sq. ft., three bedroom, 2.5 bath home with a sunroom, formal dining room, pool, workshop, three car garage home on almost 2 acres for $900 per month, but they were just looking to cover their mortgage and not make a killing on the rent. We are a family of three so our utilities are not very high either ($200 or less per month). It is a very laid back community with a laid back lifestyle. I do not care for Raleigh (no offense to anyone in the Raleigh area), but have lived in NC my entire life. My sister lives in the South Park area of Charlotte, but I can't speak about any rentals there other than in her area and they run around $3500 - $4200 per month. I know other areas of Charlotte have apartments for much less, but you have to be careful of the areas you move into. My best advice would be to contact a realtor in the area you are interested in and give them a price range to work with. If they have lived in the area for any time at all they should be able to give you some excellent advice.

Thank you for your time and help, I am looking more to the country, I love the earth aspect of living, and grew up in the country. Any info to help me figure where to live is so welcome. I'm single so an area where there a place to meet people to start dating would be great info also. I'm an artist and having a small ofc in the home would be great. I would so love to find a farmhouse or barn that was converted into a studio or apartment.

You really should post this in the general NC forum, not Raleigh-Durham, since it sounds like you are open to anywhere in the state. The Triangle doesn't have so many rural areas as you describe, though artist's work would have a good market in the Durham/Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. Asheville, also, is known for its high artist population.

You might want to look around in Randolph County near the community of Seagrove, NC. It's an artists type of community...though mostly pottery, I think....but it's rural, not too far from Asheboro for shopping, and it really is lovely out there. Good luck!

Do you mean HOKE county? I am confused but willing to help you w/ your questions if I understood the region you are interested in. Also, if you are looking to rent . . . what price point? It sounds like an unusual request b/c properties such as you have mentioned are not typically for rent.

There are many areas of western NC wh/ remind me of PA, so I think we can meet that criteria. Just not sure about the property you are looking for - how far out, etc. Finding you a house for rent in a neighborhood is definitely possible . . . finding a farm for rent . . . not so much. Now, you might find something in the mountains - a house a little off the beaten path, perhaps - that would be for rent. Would you consider the mountains?
