It might not be "as" humid in Charleston as it is in Charlotte, but both places are miserable in the summer humidity. I will go down to chucktown for the 4th of july sometimes and find it no hotter/humid than Charlotte. Hot is hot.
Plus having the beach 15 minutes away makes those miserable summer days a wee bit better (if the beach is your thing). I was just in Folly this past weekend and the weather was awesome. 65 degrees and had my morning coffee on the beach in short sleeves and shorts.
That said, if I could find a comparable job in Charleston, I would be there, probably somewhere in Mt. Pleasant. Such an awesome city. I also love Asheville but as a nice reminder, I went up for a night a couple weeks ago and thought my fingers were going to fall off while walking around to the breweries downtown.
So winter in Charleston and summer in Asheville would be my picks! Oh yeah, Charlotte is good too but ain't Chucktown or Ashevegas!
Came across this tread and thought I would offer my 2 cents. I have lived in both Charleston and Charlotte. Like most have mentioned, they truly are great cities however offer different personalities. Based on your wants and resources, there may be a common tread, PM me and I can tell you more.
I have lived in the Carolina's for most of my life and have lived in both Charleston and Charlotte (<--currently here). I have not lived in Asheville but do go every fall. I can offer another perspective and give you my take on the good, bad and ugly of Charleston and Charlotte living. If you would like my input, PM me.
