I know it varies a bit from person to person, but I'm just trying to get an idea of how much to budget for my sons braces. How much are people paying these days?

I paid +-$5,000 for my sons braces about 5 years ago. Got a discount for paying it all upfront.

I think my DS's braces were $5K. Got a discount for paying cash and then dental plan at work covered some too.

I think that's about right, about $2500 each for upper or lower.

One kid with just normal crooked teeth...$2800ish (12-18 months in braces, uppers and lowers)

One kid with completely crooked teeth, too many and too big teeth for a small jaw....$5200ish (expected 3 years in braces, various appliances over the treatment time...extra for tooth extraction-2 so far, maybe more coming, uppers and lowers)

We got a 5% discount for paying up front.

Default Braces $$$ouch!

My son just started his braces. The total bill is $5200. (He has a cross bite and over bite.) Our insurance covered $1000.
