Not sure if you have been to the Charlotte area as of yet...but best bet is come see for yourself.
I think Matthews is a nice town...but again it just depends on what you are looking for, where you are in life, and even where you are coming from (to each their own). One place I wanted to suggest was an apartment called Paces Commons (it is right across the street from Presbyterian Hospital of Matthews). While I have never lived here...it looks nice enough from the outside, and it seems to get very good ratings from several of these online apartment rating sites.
We're tossing up a bunch of ideas, thinking of possibly moving from the New York City Metro area, to Charlotte, to hopefully become a part of, what we hope is a prevailing Southern culture.
If and when we move, since this is a new endeavor, I would probably move first; secure housing, employment, etc. Therefore, I would be looking to rent before buying. Our neighborhood of choice doesn't have to be trendy, although we are looking for something that's very low in crime, has several quality (though not flashy) apartment options; something that's family friendly; traditional/Southern, etc.
I notice that there are several church options all throughout Charlotte, so that opens us up to many different areas.
Thus far, we've looked at both Matthews and Concord. Does anyone favor one over the other? Again, if given the choice, because this is new to us both, we're looking for an inexpensive lifestyle at the moment.
Are there any other areas to look at?
What could I expect to pay, for a desirable one bedroom unit/apartment? Again, I am not looking for flash, rather something that will provide for us good temporary housing, until we get a better feel for the area.
Why is it so hard to say which tradition? Family values when/where? U.S. history? Levitical law? Mormon family values? Catholic? Anglican?
muse1110 - The original poster was looking for suggestions on locations to live, and apartments in the area....I don't think it was their intention to have you hijack their post to start a discussion on traditional Christian values with you.
To the PP, I am not a Christian but many of my good friends are. We all co-exist in the city of Charlotte very well and there is a lot of tolerance here. I find in my travels that the outlying Charlotte suburban communities could be described as having "traditional Christian values" and a lot of the social activities that one can become involved with are through various churches. I lived in Concord when I moved to NC with my family and I think that you would find yourselves comfortable there, based on your descriptions of what you are looking for.
I thank you for your helpful reply
I'm quite glad to hear that people get along respectfully. For I wouldn't want to live in an environment, where unbelievers are hostile towards people of faith; nor do I desire an environment, where believers forget that matters of faith are entirely volitional.

Thanks lovethecarolinas. I agree that I should visit, and make my final assessment then.
In the meantime, your apartment suggestion is greatly appreciated, for it's sometimes hard, to get an honest recommendation.
