We my husband won't give up his job up north before he gets a new one somewhere else. The kids and I might move first and he can commute. We are also considering Raleigh area.

Hee Hee - no, I didn't think you were hippies. I just know that my friends from places such as Madison, WI, Boulder, CO and Seattle, WA have said that Charlotte is not what they would call progressive/liberal and that they think they would be more comfortable in the Raleigh area if they were to stay in NC.

If you spend time in the two cities, you will see what I mean. It comes down to things as simple as riding bikes and having dog-friendly restaurants around. I was not thinking about political affiliation or who one votes for so much as stuff that has to do w/ simple daily living activities - organic produce, yoga in the park, free concerts, etc.

Thanks, we are turning our sghts on Raleigh. My husband wants to get his Master's after we establish residency, so all together, it sounds like a better area for us.
