Coming down from Philadelphia we are a huge sports town football being one of them. I was just wondering how big football was in Charlotte?

Big enough to know the Iggles will have an early setback come the first game of the season at BOA stadium when they lose to the Panthers

The locals love them Panthers. The Panthers are noted for their extremely boring offensive style.

57% of people in Charlotte are not locals. I see bumper stickers, house pennants, t-shirts from all over, including Phila. Bunch of sports bars.

If you are like most people, you will remain loyal to your home town - in your case, an Eagles fan (sorry).

I'm a Pats fan, he said smugly.

I'm pumped for my first NFL season here to see how the city feels about the Panthers. Like y'all I'm loyal to my home city, DA BEARS, but I figure since they Panthers and Bears don't play this year, and since they are in diff conferences, I'm gonna go ahead and root for the Panthers.

I'm from Philly too and Charlotte is a big football town but the crowd here is no where near as hostile as it is back in philly. I still root for the eagles but i also root for the panthers too.

As of last year, the Falcons became my "second team". The QB went to my alma mater - all sports is parochial. I found soon enough that the Falcons and Panthers are natural and hated rivals.

Other stuff:

Pro Football: There is still a small contingent of Redskins fans locally. The Redskins were the "home" team before the Panthers.

College Football: Nothing (In Raleigh, it's ONLY college sports).

College Basketball: BIG (lots of UNC and NC State alum, plus Davidson).

College Hockey: Nope.

College Baseball: No.

Pro Hockey: No (maybe a few Hurricane fans).

Pro Basketball: No (even though the Bobcats play here).

MLB: Some locals follow the Braves.

Minor League Baseball: Charlotte Knights (I have never met anyone who expressed any interest).

NASCAR: NASCAR is car racing, and some call it a "sport". The local media pumps it up, and they sell out the races. But I have never met anyone who had an interest.

People like it so much they pay thousands for PSLs.....A PSL is just a way of buying up the rights to pay to use a seat.......Of course you can get tickets for the games that suck from scalpers.

I love it here but compared to Philly the last thing Charlotte could ever be accused of being is a big time sports town. There ain't much beyond the two races and college basketball.

i have to make a correction in your college basketball section. you forgot to note the hometown team and my alma mater, the charlotte 49ers. despite what people think there are actually of a lot of 49er fans around here.

A bit of a dis-service to the Carolina Panther fans, who have consistantly averaged 73,000+ fans a game......not bad for a team with no history, a smaller population and a high % of out-of-towners.
