Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good homebuilder in the Charlotte area? If anyone has had a bad experience with one I'd like to hear about that, too. Thanks.

There are a few good ones. We looked at John Wieland, K. Hovnania, Centex. My agent said that Toll Brothers has a good reputation as well. Heard a lot of negative things about KB Homes, but not sure on the specifics.

Interesting you should say that about KB Homes, my mortgage guy told me to avoid them to. Funny thing is he is in the Pheonix area and that's where his (bad) experience has been. So it's interesting that someone would say that about KB Homes in NC.

I personally have not had any involvement with them, but I know several people who have had nothing but negative feedback, including an agent we had dealt with last year. But I think KB is trying to improve how they rate in comparison to other builders.

I will most likely be building with C.P. Morgan once I decide which of their developments I want to live in. They give me the most house for my money, the quality isn't bad, and they have many options for customization of the floorplan. I haven't heard any complaints or been able to find anything bad about them online. I have been warned by people, as well as seen entire websites dedicated to complaining about KB Homes, even though most of the online complaints were from other states like Texas.

Ck the Better Business Bureau and the consumer complaint dept in NC, I do not know anything about any of these builders but sometimes they have a bad rep in one area and good in another...Also, try and see the nature of the complaints..sometimes the brief descp is given

I'd be curious about some of the responses here, too.

I've been looking primarily at K.Hov, Niblock, and Shea - all in the Charlotte area. Haven't heard anything pro or con from a 3rd party on any of them.

Does anyone have a price per sq ft the builders charge excluding the land? $80sq ft?
