Have you checked to see if there is a recall in place that you might have missed?
Me and Ford do not get along. I had an '04 Explorer, NEVER again!
No-hadn't thought of that as we only bought the heap in April-I will check. How would we know if there was a recall and the previous owner had taken it in?

If you contact a Ford dealer with the VIN number, they can tell you if there was a recall and if the previous owner had taken it in.
anyone ever sitting in the passenger seat w/seatbelt on in an 06 escape, engine running, reach over and turn off the ignition, only to have the vehicle accellerate backwards, down a hill and into a ditch where I ended up in the hospital for six days. the amazing part is vehicle ignition stayed on OFF andcar stayed in PARK. honest to God truth, had witnesses. prettty scarrry......
.... Probably the most reliable car on the road is a Honda or a Toyota. As long as you maintain them, they will last forever!!
In general yes, but there are certain very troublesome models of these vehicles too. Both Honda and Toyota have had mixed responses in dealing with the issues.

Susan, you might want to check to see if Ford has some sort of special extended warranty for this vehicle. They have done this in the past if the failure was caused by some sort of design defect. They have been better about it lately than they were a few years ago.
Correction: Toyota and Honda were very reliable--until they started building them in the US. Ironically, the Ford Fusion is probably the most reliable mid-size sedan in the US right now.
When it comes to reliable 2007 and up Ford sedans and non-trucks are on par with the Japanese manufacturers.
The latest Consumer Reports survey of people who have bought more than 1.4 million vehicles, is further proof of the gulf between Ford and its fellow Big 3 auto makers, GM and Chrysler. While Consumer Reports now lists Ford as being on par with Asian automakers, GM and Chrysler continue to struggle.
Just compare the Consumer Reports numbers:
Ford: 46 of 51 models (90%) have average or better then average quality.
GM: 21 of 48 models (44%) have average or better than average quality
Chrysler: 1 of 26 models (4%) has average or better than average quality.
Remember, things change. Ford 2000 is the not the same company as Ford 2009. Ford 2000 was run by beancounters, Ford 2009 is run by an actual engineer.
You get a good deal of value in a 3 to 5 year old taurus as long as the miles are no more then 90 to 100k.A friend has a 2009 escape that list for over 28k and its just a 2 wheel drive. I drove it and its nice but I think overpriced.
I hate Ford. We have a 99 Windstar and had to replace the transmission twice! Everyone I know with a Ford has had tranny problems, doesn't matter what model.
