[/b]Hi everyone:

We have just moved to the Charlotte area, and are currently renting. We will be house hunting sometime within the next year or two, as soon as we sell our house, that's out West. We used to live in an HOA community, and really disliked all the little rules that they had, such as, you must keep your garbage can inside the garage (it then begin to smell) and other misc. things that really drove us crazy.

I would like to live in a non-HOA, good community, where there are professional, college-educated people. (lived in a working class area, and felt I didn't have too much in common with everyone)....we were looking at Gastonia, but not sure about that area. Husband works in Charlotte, and I work from home, and I have a small child. Would like to look for nice communities that is very active in fitness (not just sit around/stay at home mommy groups--Boooring!) and cultural things, along with nice schools for my daughter, oh, also half the taxes of Mecklenburg County. Husband also wants land and likes the mountains.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!!!!!!! Love the Charlotte, NC so far! It rocks!!!

College educated vs working class..exactly what do you mean? Sounds like maybe you should check out South Charlotte..although you will have Meck taxes..other areas are going to be increasing taxes eventually..they are going to have to because of the unprecedented growth.

You might want to skip gastonia, you will find it booring.

As far as housing developements, Check Belmont and Mount Holly they are a litte more upper class then gastonia. Gastonia consists of alot of average people.

Cramerton is more upscale the Mt Holly and Belmont. However, be warned, there is a wal-mart in Belmont that brings average folks out of the average areas.

There are lots and lots of great non-HOA communities in Rock Hill / Fort Mill area. You could pick up a nice 60's to 70's ranch for about 150K.

Awesome! Cramerton sounds really interesting...did some research on this area, so will plan to look around here, since we now live on just the edge of Meck. county. Belmont isn't all that bad, (just depends on where you go...Historic Belmont is beautiful and charming...) since I do go to the Walmart to grocery shop, which is awesome compared to the Walmart I USED to shop at when I lived in AZ...that was a complete nightnmare. People are very, very nice over here.

There is a great research site to check on city stats, demongraphics, etc:

Moderator cut: Sorry - competitor's city information site link not permitted

Thanks for the tip!
