I'm down on a house hunting trip right now and I'm curious to here everyone's opinions on the following areas:

1st Ward (newly built up area), 3rd Ward, 4th Ward, NoDa, Elizabeth, Chantilly, Dilworth

I have found pretty nice places in all areas but some definitely stick out more than others. I would be interested in hearing your opinion on crime, which areas are fun for 30 somethings, future development plans for these areas that could increase/decrease property values in the future.

Thanks!

In my opinion, you are still pioneering by buying in 3rd Ward, and First Ward. NoDa has the advantage that the Art Crawls on Friday Nights have been happening for many years, so the fear factor for that area is not so high. I love going there for the funky flavor of the neighborhood. Eat a muffelatta at Boudreaux’s Louisiana Kitchen!

Chantilly has some adorable houses, and is a very safe and fun neighborhood for a 30 something. You are close to the funky bars/restaurants in the Plaza area (Dish,Penguin/THomas Street Tavern) and 2 miles from downtown.. These houses are skyrocketing in value as we speak! I have cute, fun young friends that live in Midwood as well- don't forget to look there.

Bias- I live in Elizabeth & love it. Not many bargains in housing, but a wonderful, fun area to live close to town.

Dilworth is the same as ELizabeth- great houses, close to town, but not many bargains left!

Good luck!
