I thought this was a pretty funny description of Charlotte someone wrote on the Phoenix forum. I got a good laugh.

You will experience much less culture shock by moving to Phoenix than to Charlotte.

If you like So.Cal then AZ is for you. The pace in NC is VERY slow, and would take much getting used to for someone from Cali. This includes driving, going to the store, every daily activity you can think of - SLOW.

There isn't much in the way of sushi, but there are butter beans and boiled peanuts and grits everywhere.

If you want to continue a Cali-type lifestyle then Phoenix is more compatible for sure. But if you like living in the woods then head for Charlotte.

ps. I have family in the Carolinas, I know.
