I've actually been to several "decent" sushi buffets in my lifetime... I just find that the "best" label could never be applied to bulk cuts under a sneeze guard. lol
I've been to Japan. They would consider the sushi served on a buffet here as "gaijin sushi" and dismiss it. Low quality rice and tarted up. In fact buffets are referred to as "viking style" eating and usually limited to a few places that serve western food. I guess the closest thing they have is kaiten sushi (conveyor belt) but you still pay by the individual serving. Even in those places however, it's pretty high quality and the tea is free.
Perhaps the statement should be amended to "American sushi buffets"

Yeah, Ace Sushi is pretty bad. It is cheaper than going to a restaurant but not by much.
I wish someone would open a Wasabi around here. It is one of those conveyer belt sushi places. I ate at one in NOVA last time I was there and it was better than I expected it to be.
Not in Southpark but not far, the best sushi in Charlotte hands down is Nikko. I've also had excellent sushi at Upstream which is in the heart of Southpark.

I think the closest conveyor belt sushi, also called sliding sushi, is in the Raleigh area. I'm not sure if Charlotte could support such a place or not.

Completely agree - HT sushi is awful.
