I went outside a few minutes ago. I smelled smoke in the air. My first thought, is there a fire in the area? I checked the Charlotte Observer. They said its smoke from the Ga/FL fire. I'm near the airport. Can anyone else smell the spoke in your area of town?

I would have sworn Matthews was on fire the way it smelled at my house when I first went out this morning. It is unbelievably strong! I was relieved to hear the fire is not nearby but amazed when I heard the news say it is from as far away as Georgia/Florida.
The smell is very strong. If you have respiratory problems, you may want to stay inside. I hope that NJ, Fl, GA, and CA, and the midwest fires will be controlled soon. It's very dry here also. Yesterday, I noticed that my the grass in my backyard is turning brown and very crunchy. It was nice and green a few weeks ago. We all need rain. I'm going to ask my daughter to get the kids to do the rain dance.
Location: Sunny Phoenix Arizona...wishing for a beach.

I travelled to the Sanford NC area today and it was extremely bad up there. All along I-85 between High point and Greensboro were also bad.
