Do you need an NC drivers license to buy a car in NC? I have a current valid PA license. I just moved here 2 months ago and did not get my NC license yet and of course I just had an accident that totalled my car. The drivers here are indeed crazy, but that aside now I have to get another car and soon. i heard you need an NC license to buy a car here. Seems strange but most things here are strange.

if you do, how about SC? Could I buy a car in SC with my PA license

You can buy a car anywhere without even having a license. You might run into problems if you try to register it in NC though.

But that aside... do you think PA would let you have a NCDL and title/register your vehicle in PA? 'Cause that's essentially your situation. I imagine that most States have laws regarding being licensed in your state of residence... nothing at all to do with your ability to purchase though.

What is really strange is that you haven't asked a car dealer. It is also strange that you haven't changed your PA tags to NC tags.

Leasing does have residency requirements which vary by market, but I have never heard of needing a certain state license to buy a vehicle...

thanks for the advice. And my situation is not all that strange. My husband was transferred down here and I am still based out of our Pgh office so I spend 1/2 time here and 1/2 time in PA where I drive my car so it seemed reasonable to keep my PA information until I am permanently transferred here (hopefully soon). Plus we have not sold our PA house so I guess technically I still live there

The reason I have not asked a car dealer is because the accident just occurred yesterday and I am pretty banged up and not suppose to be on my legs too much for a few days - so I thought I would do some research on line.
