The name of this place is Habatchi Buffet Sushi and Grill. In Matthews next to Lifestyle fitness on Independence.
We made it over there last night to try it out. When I originally posted this, I did NOT know that it was also a buffet. I am not a fan of buffets, BUT I do enjoy habatchi grills and sushi SOOOO--- this is my review (for those that are curious)
This place is BIG, really big. The decor is actually pretty for a "buffet" and for the price. SUPER CHEAP $8.59 dinner (we went dinner time) and $6.39 for lunch.
If you are a sushi lover you might be dissapointed like I was. There was hardley any choice, I think I counted four-five. If you are a buffet lover you will be in happy as there really was everything you can think of under the sun.
Pizza lovers they had that too! (sorry I could not resist) as for the quality of everything, well it is a buffet, what do you expect.
BUT, I really liked the habatchi part as it is cooked to order. You choose your ingredients and type of sauce and this is
what I stuck to.
If you're looking to get your belly full for a small cost this might be a choice.
For four of us all water and one hot tea ---around $40 bucks. (adults)
Side note - they do have eight flavors of ice cream to choose from (not soft serve)
I originally walked up to get some but had to wait for a little kid on the other side trying desperately to DIG (I swear half the kids body was in the freezer) what ever was left on the bottom of the containers. In his defense, he was using the smallest ice cream scooper I have ever seen. I got SO grossed out and passed. How many little and big arms and hands have been in and out of those things? They were very busy.
Years ago it was Petstuff. (the original Pet superstore before they were bought out by Petsmart) As of last I think the last thing was a Bridal or dress shop.
I've been twice, and as far as Asian buffets go, I think it's up there with Tin Tin, my favorite. Big selection, overall very good, some items I definitely like more than others. Great price, as said above. I still want the butter shrimp from Tin Tin but now there's a good buffet on the east side of town.
As for the kid in the ice cream, that's bad parenting. I think I remember signs about parents needing to accompany their small kids.
Regarding buffets, the general level of cleanliness is pretty high in most restaurants, so I don't freak out about the occasional "kid in the ice cream" incident. I want to relax and enjoy my food without thinking about germs and other yucky stuff.
Thanks mayday30. I was curious, it is a big space.
I'm not sure which building this might be, but originally the place was built as a Waccamaw Pottery. The other end was a Home Quarters which was a home improvement chain that preceeded Lowes and Home Depot. (I think HD bought them out)

We went at lunch today. It was doing a very brisk business. Everything tasted fresh, and the hibachi (which is my favorite) has a smallish selection but tasted delicious.

The whole buffet is all you can eat - including the hibachi and the sushi. We moved here from Ann Arbor, MI, where our favorite restaurant was BD Mongolian. I was so sad to see that there is not one here.
