There is going to be a BBQ Cook-off fundraiser for police officer Richard Belk, who sustained a serious injury during a training exercise and is facing mounting medical bills. If you live in the area, you know these guys do a great job for us, stop by and show your support if you can. It will be held on Sunday December 20th from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, in front of the old Firehouse Station 18, N.E. corner of Main Street near the railroad tracks. The cook-off will be between the Waxhaw volunteer Fire Dept, Police Dept., Public Service and Butch Kelly with Butts R Us. The minimum donation is $5 per person and there will be music and cakewalk as well. (don't ask me what a cakewalk is, I'm a damn yankee!)

I found the flyer for the event on Waxhaw's website. http://www.waxhaw.com/vertical/Sites/%7BB71F8B2C-49E4-4CB6-8B8A-5D0ABA591922%7D/uploads/%7B48DEEF87-E7CA-4B85-B620-5B9C648E27B1%7D.PDF (broken link)
Just wanted to report that this was awesome. They had about 10 different bbq vendors. I swear one was better than the next. Looking forward to next year.
I don't have any other information. More than likely he passed away from condition...?
I found this on Facebook, but it's also on Waxhaws website;
"The Town of Waxhaw is extremely saddened to announce the passing of one of our finest, Officer Richard Belk, with the Waxhaw Police Department. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family. Information on funeral arrangements will be posted as learned."
