My Neighbor's father who is 86 years old is looking for any recommedation for a skills nursing home in charlotte or huntersville area. Her father also has dementia too. Right now he is in a short term facilty. but they have a 2 year waiting list for long term. she is having no luck with her social worker in trying to find a long term facilty, pretty much all the facilities has a year or 2 waiting list for long term. If anyone has a recommedations, I would appreciate it.

thanks,

Dennise

Yep, on those waiting lists here as well for the past two years. The estimates I have are a wait of 7-10 years.

Assisted Living facilities typically have much better availability. Would that be a possible option for the time being?

A resource that helped me a lot was "A Place for Mom":

Yeah, I know, the title's a bit misleading, but they'll help regardless.

You can call Clarebridge assisted living in Concord and see if they have any bed openings. This place caters to those with alzheimer's related dementia and is a locked facility. This is close to the university area of charlotte.

You can also try Morningside Assisted Living on Penny Lane in Concord. I work there and see the care and compassion that the staff provides. Tell them Fay sent you. Good Luck

Something I just recently found out about. Make sure your neighbor is aware that she (or whoever signs as the Responsible Party) will be required to pay for the first six to twelve months out-of-pocket just as if she's a private pay. Only then will Medicaid or other insurance be considered for the on-going balance.

Dear Dennise, I am not that good on the computer. I didn't know how to send you more info, so I'm going to send it through C-D. Try calling Morningside again, ask for Catherine Brown. She might have the answer you are looking for. Again, PLEASE tell them Fay sent you . Good Luck fay
