Remember that "dangerous" is pretty much a relative concept....if you're from a large metropolitan area, you'll be pleasantly surprised with Charlotte. However, if you are from a small town, Charlotte will, indeed, seem daunting. While a larger population results in a greater NUMBER of crimes...the crime rate index used nationally, reflects the number of crimes per 100,000 people...with the median being something over .3......when this method is used, a tiny town with 0 murders, 0 rapes, 0 violent crimes of any kind...can still end up with a rating of twice that (based on non-violent crimes such as theft, etc.)

To the OP, you may want to list the help of a apartment broker, for example Allen Tate (as an example) could help you with a search for a complex that would be convienant. YOu may pay .5-1 months rent, *but* you will save a lot of headaches in guessing which areas will be a good fit for you.

Possibly your future co-workers could help with recommendations.

Secondly, Charlotte as a whole is *not* a dangeous city/region. There's no Marshall law, tanks aren't rolling through uptown, and we're not all wearing flak jacket.

There's an element here with an agenda to create as much fear, doubt, and uncertainity as possible- so they will post articles regarding problems with education, infastructure, the economy, and crime- never balancing out the information. It's very similar to the hypsters who frequent day trading message boards to pump up or dump on a stock to move it in a direction favorable to their own interest. They always get a few newbie posters, but never fool the regulars.
