Huntersville has a really good PD, too - very responsive.

I try to think why the crime is low in Huntersville and what I am about to say is just analogy and not no proven facts.

A very well presense of a police force. It scared me when I first moved here as I thought they was everywhere and Im sure that also weighs in the heads of those with criminal minds.

A very small segment of population of those who have a hard time to make ends meet.
A fairly decent seperation from Charlotte's population that live on the hard side. This is plus because of the few streets to go in out of the city a criminal will not be familiar with the area and only have few ways to get away from the scene of a crime and the long stop lights help lol.
I think the more affluent the average population is it will have less crime than those where the two populations are next to each other.

As usual since the six years I have been here Huntersville will see a spike in car break in's and garage robberies due to many people leave the windows down and garage doors open. It is easy to have that false sense of security living here but I rarely set myself up as prey.

I could see if Huntersville became a target it would be an easier venture for the subdivisons to be hit. Other than the main roads that lead into subdivisions the cul de sacs etc are very dark and few people leave on their front porch lights or have security lights. I personally rather turn on a porch light than have the light pollution of street lights and it shining into my house.

The other day my brother had his SUV truck parked with all four windows down and he very careless about leaving valuables inside and he has had it broke into before. (he just does not get it lol)
It was funny because what got my attention on his windows being down is two birds was using it as a playground as a tunnel for them to fly through.

I am more relax here but not as relax as I was in Lexington, NC. The police force there would park decoy cars at the entrances of the town as there sign of police presense. It not going to take me no more than a minute to lock a door or roll up a window. It is nice right having my house windows open but I do close the lower level at night.

Nice post, Sunny. I think you are right about the reasons H'ville does not have a lot of crime. Yes, crime can happen anywhere b/c the thugs can move around . . . but such things as stoplights and winding roads and subdivisions that are hard to get out of in a hurry do make a difference!!! Plus, the PD there - those guys are very committed to do a super job. We just have too many square miles here for CMPD to cover for them to really have much of a "presence" in many of our areas.

Huntersville is a wonderful area to live in. You are right, tho - easy to get complacent and forget to "roll up the windows and lock the door." Especially easy to forget now that it is getting warmer . . . and we are all outside more . . . .

well I don't think anywhere has enough presence of police force to prevent crime unless they are in and out of neighborhoods all night long. You idiots that leave your car or house doors/windows open here in these parts are what has invited the thugs to mug. Keep safe habits and most of the time you will be safe and watch your back.. it someone walks behind you and you don't trust or like it.. well move aside and let them go on and walk in front of you... too bad if you feel they "may not like it" well maybe you don't like them walking behind you, the hell with them! stop being stupid and watch yourselves, don't expect the law to watch your back.. they will take care of a crime after the fact or investigate a crime after the fact.. common sense gang!
