Some people consider it a positive. I know that full instruction in a native language is a rarity but the fact that North Carolina taxpayers are willing to shell out money to hire ESL teachers when that money could be used to reduce class size really speaks to NC values.
What's most important to me: my daughter got a lot of one on one attention, she had fun, and she loved going to school. Can't get much better than that.
On the academic front, her school segmented the literacy program, so all the first graders were assigned a skill based literacy group and went with that group for reading and writing.
My son is finishing kindergarten at Lake Wylie Elementary in SW Charlotte. His teacher and teacher's aide could not have been any better! They are very attentive, focused on learning, and challenge their pupils to excel and learn things *I* never learned until well into first grade and beyond. My five year old can read, thanks to his kindergarten teacher, and he LOVES books!

Returning to original topic
I had to delete the last several posts as they were not within the scope of the OPs topic (so don't be alarmed, the thread went off topic early in the day and I missed it).
Note: There are plenty of threads dealing with CMS issues- this however isn't one of them.

Hey, someone gave me negative rep and said this post is "Off Topic." First of all, I started this topic. I'm pretty sure I understand what the OP wanted.
To clarify my point, this post includes a link to a newspaper article that gives credit to a CMS middle school for coming in FIRST place a the WORLD Odyssey of the Mind competition. Someone at CMS must be doing something GOOD. And, I didn't think it hurt to pass the compliments around to all the local districts who placed.
I got deleted for being off topic and I was only defending CMS policy of serving all the students, just like all other public schools do. Go figure????
Sometimes post get deleted when you reply to an off topic thread. I wouldn't take it to personally.

Well thanks for clarifying that. It just makes you wonder what you did wrong?
