I tried posing these questions in another thread but I think it got lost in the discussion so I'll try again...

When buying a townhome, how much added value is an end unit worth vs. an interior unit?

How much more value would a small backyard that is bigger than the tiny backyards in all the other units add?

And just a poll--for those of you who have owned or are considering buying a townhome, how important are these factors for you?

Thanks!

I always noticed the end/corner townhome unites are the First ones to sell. You only have one neighbor and 3 walls of windows. So for many people that's a good thing to enjoy while your living and good for resale as well. The builders usually chanrge a premium of anywhere from like 10k and up depending on the type of project. It seems all brick townhomes with a federal aesthetic are also very popular here. Some have like a garages, or a little court yard either in the front or the back of the property, it depends on the look the builder is going for. Also townhomes close to the center city or inside the center city loop are good investments since the majority of projects in uptown are condos. If you can find a deal on single-family home in uptown Charlotte even better! I also like "live/work" townhomes that evoke the the past I wish they did more of these buildings in Dilworth, Elizabeth, Noda, Plaza Midwood where people tend to walk a bit more. It would complement it rather well and especially help grow the commerical districts in those neighborhoods by adding more multi-use spaces to the few blocks of commericial strip.
