Wow and with that attitude...then I think it might be good for your child to be around others!

"We're looking for daycare/day camp for our 16-month-old son so he can start spending time with other kids his age"

You didn't give your situation, we gave you some other options for "socialization" of your child. If you need care then that is another subject and would be classified as such.

jaysfan, you're new around here, so I'm gonna cut you some slack. Generally this is a friendly place and we try to keep it that way, so please don't be rude.

No one is telling you HOW to raise your son. We are offering suggestions for places you might find other parents with young babies/children to meet and socalize with. You did say that was your objective?

If all you want is info on a good day care then that's different and hopefully others with that info will chime in to help you shortly.

Awww, leave the poor guy alone. I'm sure he and his wife have their reasons for putting their child in daycare. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Lots of preschools include young children, and with many parents BOTH working full-time, they often have no other choice or the time to meet up with stay-at-home parents.

At any rate, keep it civil, everyone!

jaysfan, you should try Kids 'R' Kids in Blakeney. There are also plenty of churches that offer daycare or if you're Jewish you can try the JCC.

PM if you'd like more info.

Jaysfan, I was confused about your post. Do you want your son to go to daycare because you both work or because you want him around other kids? Just be careful with daycares and do your HW so many horror stories lately about little ones and daycare. This is why I watch my girlfriends boys. She is crying her heart out that we are moving tried everything to convince me to stay.....Good Luck and ask ask ask

What horror stories? That would be interesting to hear more about...

Anyway... I would also recommend CharlotteMommies. Im not even there yet and I joined and have gotten a wealth of good suggestions. Some of the part time options in that area(I think...again, not there yet) are the Goddard School, Primrose, Charlotte Jewish, and apparently the best daycare is Calvary. The only problem is most of these places have a LONG waitlist, some up to a year. There are a bunch of SAHM's that do in home daycare as well, so that might be an option too.

BTW...let the opinions slide off your back and people...just answer the questions! (I had the same problem with a couple of questions I posted...way to many opionions that didn't give me the answers I was looking for)

I would advise to look at the following link to see the various providers in your area, they provide home and center based child care. I am not firmilar with the area your located in so I don't know of any centers in that area.
I have used MANY daycare centers in a 3 year period and I found that the religious based centers were more nurturing then the regular daycares. I also think that summer camps are typically reserved for school age children.

Choosing Quality Child Care Overview

Send me a pm if you'd like more info on my experiences. Good Luck. Make sure you feel 'safe' and your child is comfortable in the enviornment before you leave them.

amp, here in NY we have heard of multiple babies sharing one crib a the same time, sitting in dirty diapers, abuse, bigger children hurting babies and infants. This is just some of the things going on...Thats why I always say make surprise visits anytime and at different times. If they won't let you in take your kid and RUN!!

OMG!! That is scary! I have my 2 DD in daycare and thank goodness we have had no issues, nor have we heard of any complaints anywhere close to something like that. We make pop in visits all the time too. It makes you wonder how anyone could treat a child like that??
