Is an attorney customary and/or necessary for closing on a home in Charlotte? I'm buying a single family home and the closing should be straightforward. I have a realtor and a closing agent assigned by my mortgage company.

Any help?

North Carolina is an attorney state. The attorney doesn't necessarily need to be present but the closing must be coordinated by an attorney or his/her representative, ie paralegal.

I just closed on a house there and it seems it's unusual for the buyer to be represented by an attorney. Being from NY I always use a lawyer at closings so, I decided to bring a lawyer with me anyway, to go over the paperwork and look for any clauses that might not be in my best interest. Everything was fine, but it gave me peace of mind. If your interested in her contact info just pm me. She was very reasonable and nice as well.

From my experience, it's very helpful.

Anyone close without an attorney? Did you have any problems?
