I'm sitting here wondering why I rented a house in a subdivision that doesn't have a pool!! Anyway, does anyone know anything about any public outdoor pools in Charlotte? I looked at the parks & recreation link for Mecklenburg county; just wondering how they are. Thanks!

You might be better off looking into a YMCA membership, depending on where in the city you live. The parks and rec dept is having huge cutbacks this summer and there are nice Y's all around the city. As far as I know there are only 2 outdoor pools operated by parks and rec - both in disadvantaged areas, so you'd have to be comfortable with that. In the wintertime though, do consider visiting their great indoor pools, Ray's Splash Planet and the Aquatic Center in uptown.

Great thought about the YMCA!

Also, many neighborhood pools offer summer memberships, even if you're not a resident of that neighborhood.

Good luck, and happy swimming!

You know what would be nice? A spot where there's runoff from something like a reservoir, so the water's clean and fresh, and where it's moving, and shady, so it can't get warm. Nice, fresh, cold, running water where you could just sit there in it until you turned blue.

Sigh...

How about under the spillway by the Lake Norman reactors?
