I want to attempt to make a visit to C'ville again this year. Last year I ended up visiting outside Richmond and it was boring.

But I've heard that there is alot of road constructions going on that might hamper visitors who really aren't sure of where they are going and lots of traffic delays. I was hoping to have a relaxing vacation so I don't want to be fighting traffic the whole time. Any way around the construction zones?

The only MAJOR project is at the intersection of U.S. 250 bypass & McIntire Rd.. That is a huge interchange design that impacts traffic throughout the day. The only other ones I know about are just small fix-it projects. You can avoid it and still get around OK.

The only real delays are in the morning and evening rush, after 9am it's easy to get around. Then again from about 4:30 to 6pm it picks up. Then, of course, the occasional UVA football game on Saturday's.

traffic in charlottesville is a joke if you have ever lived anywhere else of any size. its relative, so traffic to locals might seem bad but charlottesville does not really have any traffic and a 5 min light delay won't kill you. don't let "traffic" sway you from a visit. just avoid town on a football day and you will be just fine

sounds good! I'm in SoCal so I'm used to heavy traffic but in a new place, detours can get confusing and I always worry about getting in an accident. sounds like I should be able to handle it.
