Thanks Emsman,

Your suggestions are very helpful! I chose Waynesboro because the mountains are very visible, and past living in NC makes me want to live in an area with very prevalent mountains. I searched the Roanoke/Salem area too, but it doesn't seem like the economy is quite there yet and the mountains are not as big as the Waynesboro area.

I was hoping to live in Waynesboro and commute to Charlottesville for work. My daughter is 21 so schools are not a concern to me. Staunton and Fishersville would be to far of a commute, and Crozet seems way to expensive to me. Are there other areas you can recommend? Are there neighborhoods on the other side (to the east) of Charlottesville that would not be too far maybe? Thanks again!

I don't know much about the daily living in neighborhoods around Charlottesville, once outside the city your looking at Ruckersville, Orange, Gordonsville, Lake Monticello, and Zions Crossroads area. All of those are similar milages to the Waynesboro & Staunton areas, just depends on which area you fall in love with.
A reference for you to use from the West side, it is exactly 30.6 miles from Augusta Health hospital in Fishersville to UVA hospital in the middle of Charlottesville, that's door to door milage (you can guess by my user name how I know this semi-useless fact).

Thanks Emsman,

That is actually very useful. I have checked out Monticello, and Ruckersville (as much as I can from here in Michigan). I will want to visit around the area next year before the move but it gives me a head start. And the hospital tips are not useless at all - actually very helpful because I will have a degree in Health Care Management and that is exactly where I was looking. Thanks so much!
