I was wondering - are the ticks in Albemarle County bad? Coming from the Northeast we are infested with them. I'm just gathering some anecdotal information - about how many do you pick off yourself (and kids) from spring to fall?

They can get pretty bad. Stay out of the tall grass, etc. And if you have a dog, they will get them and then bring them into your house.

Bad is relative but if you go into a field or the woods expect to have one latch onto you. They are even frequently picked up while working in yards and gardens. Ditto on the dog issue, even if they have one of the systemic topical products that will kill the tick, they do not always die right away.
If you spend a day out in the woods or fields you will proabably have to pick a one or two off. I am hoping that the deeper freeze and snow we had this winter will reduce the numbers but not counting on it.
