Considering moving to western Virginia. Want to be able to take car drives, short hikes and just get out and about. Will I be able to do this in Virginia without a lot of fees? Are there fees for parks and forests?

I have been to a lot of places in Virginia and pretty much the car drives are enjoyable...so much to see and enjoy along the way. I am not familiar with the parks and forests in western Virginia. However, I would think Lynchburg would be a good place to start looking.
