[SIZE=3]Charlottesville is very friendly and upbeat small town, where most people are accepting of different lifestyles. Thinking of my gay friends, they seem to feel quite comfortable living and working here. As for a specific location, I think that you would prefer city to county, but would have to accept a lack of 2-car garage spaces.Anyhow, why not visit and see it for yourself?

Being a college town, C-ville is quite liberal and gay friendly. But since the prices are so high on the wallet, I'd reccomend Roanoke. As with every area, you will meet really conservative people, but overall it is a gay-friendly climate. There's even a gay bar (The Park).

I went to school at UVA and felt Charlottesville was quite progressive and gay-friendly (I was coming from a Southern city). The occasional jaunt to DC was always quite refreshing too. As a lesbian I never had any trouble or issues in C'ville proper and always felt comfortable. However, immediately outside of C'ville is a different story... multi-generational conservative values run deep. The closer you are to "The University" the better IMHO. Best of luck to you in your relocation journey.
