I'm considering moving to Charlottesville. I am disabled and don't drive so have to rely on public transportation. I know C'Ville has a bus system. Does anyone use the system there regularly? If so, how do you find it? From what little I can tell from routes etc on their website, buses go to and from many shopping areas as well as UVa, but how is the coverage in the residential areas? Some folks have commented on living in communities outside of C'Ville and commuting in. Do buses travel from other towns to C'Ville on a daily basis including weekends?

Cville has a decent bus service and there is a separate service that provides public transportation among the smaller localities around the Cville area. Check out the website for JAUNT, the regional transit service.

Hello,
Charlottesville bus transportation is exists and has improved greatly compared to only 5-10 years ago. Compared to larger towns though, it is quite limited, as you can not reach every corner of the city using CTS only. You would have to live in downtown to have simplest access to all routes, but it is possible to commute and use (free) transfer from other bus-stop locations as well. Drivers are very friendly and helpful and would even wait for a single passenger for a transfer. I had a great experience with the system and remember what it meant to be driven to your home door (!) on a late route. All busses are wheelchair accessible. There are bus connections from and to Cville from other towns, but schedules/days of service vary depending on your preferred commute.
You can read the detailed descriptions (days and hours of operation, location, routes etc) about CTS services and other connections from and to Charlottesville here: http://www.charlottesville.org/Index.aspx?page=156
To be more specific, I would have to know which locations you would consider to live in if you decide to make this move and what places you would have to access on a bus.
Hope this answered your questions and wish you best of luck.
Tanja
