The Chattanooga Police Department's Police Racing Team participated in the 2006 Beat the HEAT World Finals; the big race of the year for the world's fastest police cars which werre held in Houston, Tx. Every year members of the non-profit education program Beat the HEAT, Inc. gather together to compete for top honors to see whose police or fire car is the fastest in the nation.

The World Finals for Beat the HEAT, Inc. will be in Chattanooga September 20-22nd Thursday through Saturday.

Beat the HEAT, Inc. is an education program whose members are active or retired public safety officials (fire and police officers) who seek to educate young people on the dangers of illegal street racing; alcohol and drug abuse; and the importance of staying in school. As their platform, these officers utilize a souped-up marked police or fire race car that they actively race at area drag strips. The vehicles are taken to schools and car shows, drawing young people to them and allowing the officers an opportunity to educate young people on safe driving habits and safe habits for life.

The scheduled events will include a car show on Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., featuring police and fire race cars from across the country, as well as several vintage police and fire vehicles. It will be held in downtown Chattanooga near the waterfront. Admission is free.

On Friday the teams will convoy to Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip in Ringgold, from 6-11 p.m., for an evening of testing and tuning with area racers in preparation for the big race on Saturday. One of the big features that night will be the world's fastest police car, the police Jet Interceptor. The public is invited. Cost is $10 for adults, kids 10 and under are free.

On Saturday the world's fastest police and fire cars will face off at Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip to see who is going to be the "Top Cop" in the country. The public is again invited to watch the racing as well as the world’s fastest police car, the Police Interceptor Jet. The cost is $15 for adults, kids 10 and under are free.

We were out for a walk today, and stumbled upon the race cars. They were on display for the public across the street from Ross Landing. What caught my eye was Davie, FL Police Truck--Davie is where my parents live. We chatted with the officers, took some pictures, and ran across the street to check out river.
