We're looking for active retirement living and have seen many TN web sites touting "lake living" in East TN. Would anyone care to share their experiences and choices to explore?

Default How active . Organized.?

E: WELCOME. YES 10 months /yr area is almost Heaven . Tad cold yesterday & this am . Should be mid 60's all this week. The whole TENN river goes for 600+miles thru various dams. Called different lakes where it widens out.
South of Knoxville like Watts Bar lake , Tellico lk , etc.
Some of these have Golf Courses in the community (Rarity). Somewhat UpScale size homes for TENN.
. Heard newer properties are all slowing development with the economy (Banking) concerns. Some golf courses not being finished .? I would 1st look at re-sale homes & not be early ground breakers.
TVA Water here gets drained down 5 or 6 feet over the winter. COVE or shallow(Summer water) dockage may be less $$ as can not launch boat all 12 months. MAIN channel or WINTER water would be deeper anchorage for 12 month boat usage, more $$.
Some shore line quite steep and another option is buy a house ACROSS the street from backyard water , & buy a smaller 80 ft plot to own just your boat hoist lift, also Less Taxes. Water is clear , fishing good .
KNoxville big boating area with a few major boat builders in region , ALLISON , SEA RAY , Christian Yachts, etc. SORRY for the Delay .
.. ..

Hi There are many different places that are good places to be. Good is all relative. I always start by asking my clients what their priorities are and then I know about where to direct them. Some people like golf, some boating, some tubing and kayaking some equine activities. There are places for all of that. I know most of the communities on most of the waterways from Norris Lake to Hiwassee to Nick-a-Jack. It depends on what you really want besides water. My advice is to find a really good waterfront specialist and be honest with them and then be patient while they work for you.
