No one has mentioned Red Bank. Any thoughts on this area?

If I have to rent for a bit, is there any particular apartment complex that is recommended? I was thinking of the Reserve at Lakeshore or Riverview Grande. Any ideas?

What is your budget? That makes a big difference. I like Red Bank. The houses tend to be smaller, and you probably won't find "land", if that's a consideration. My husband and I rented in Hixson, and ultimately bought a house in Harrison because we wanted land. I strongly suggest you rent for 6 months or so. Rushing into buying a house for the tax credit makes no sense if you end up not liking the area and wanting to sell a year later.

That's the exact reason why we are considering renting. Especially since we do not know the area at all.

Does anyone know of any houses that are for rent? We don't mind duplexes or apartment complexes, but like most, we're ready for a little privacy. Any thoughts on the two apartment complexes I mentioned above?

I'm not too familiar with the Riverview Grande.

The Reserve is actually one that I looked at when apt. hunting. The apts. are pretty much secluded from Hwy 153 and they are also secluded from the main road. The surrounding area is wooded with trees there are also units that sit directly on the lake. The ONLY reason I didn't choose them is because I didn't want to travel over the dam and on 153 every day. If I didn't drive into Catoosa daily this wouldn't matter.

Anyways I would recommend this complex to you any day based on looks and atmosphere.

Okay, so assuming I'm taking 58 Southbound to downtown every day (this is what Google Maps tells me), would the drive be that bad?

My husband does this everyday, and, no, it's not bad at all.

I drive 58 southbound from Birchwood everyday into downtown..specifically to Broad Street. Not traffic problems and a nice drive.

Default "Biggest, small town" in America

In East Brainerd, your commute time will be in between 15-25 minutes to Downtown. Do be advised though traffic bottles up during peak hours from the new(er) school and because E. Brainerd Road is 1 lane.

And +1 to your realtor. He/she is exactly right about East Ridge. Cops are horrible in that city. Plus they recently lowered the speed limit from 40-35 in most areas and they do enforce it.
I am moving to East Brainerd this summer with my two children, and will marry my boyfriend after we get settled there. I actually grew up there, so going back "home" is such a comforting feeling. He was my bestfriend throughout my middle school years, and we found one another again about 6 months ago. He's always remained there, and wouldn't live anywhere else. It is the "biggest, small town" in the country, and it's a great place to raise a family.
By the way, one of his close family member retired from TVA, and loved it throughout the years she was there.
BEST OF LUCK!!!

How long has it been since you've been through here?

I moved from there in 1989, so certainly things are completely different than they were then. The people haven't seemed to change, though, which is a great blessings! They are allowing their beloved city to be built up, and yet these fine folks hang on to that amazing Southern heritage while the city maintains it's charm! GREAT balance.
