Hi everybody.

I got a job in Alrlington Heights and I am moving from Denmark to Chicago at the beginning of September. But where should I live? I plan on renting a 2 bedroom apartment, but I don't know if I should stay out in the area of the office, or I should move into the city? I am a 29yo single male and I have heard alot of good things about living downtown. But I am also aware of the drive. Any help anyone?

/ole

Arlington hts is a very nice town with an easy Metra train ride to the city. You will not make a mistake with either choice. As you are a 29 yr old,i would suggest that you will really enjoy the city and all it has to offer you.You would be doing a "reverse commute" by train and its never as crowded. If you should choose to live near your work,Arlington hts has many apts, but its really a "family type" town.Good luck to you on your move, welcome to America

Hej Ole-

What part of Denmark are you coming from? I live in AH and am 30 and work out here ( next town over) and frankly, Im starting to wish I was living in the city because I feel like Im missing out on meeting new people and becoming engaged with new groups. The drive IS crazy ( I can actually ride my bike to work out here at least) and the train isnt bad BUT the public transport system in Chicago will not work nearly as smoothly as what you are used to (especially if you are coming from Copenhagen). Depends on what you want in your living area- AH has some great parks and rec facilities and the mixed-use downtown area has some good restaurants and is walkable.

PM me if you have any other questions about Arlington Heights or coming from Scandinavia to the Midwest ( there are Scandinavian groups here but we havent had a chance to get into the city to get in touch with them yet- the significant other is a Swede and believe me, I hear no end of bitching about the standard of public transport in the US)
