Hi,

I will move to Chicago area. My job is at Riverwoods. I am looking for one bed room apartment to rent, does anyone have any suggestion on which neighbor or community is better?

Thanks in advance.

There isn't much in Riverwoods. Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills, Northbrook, and Deerfield are all decent northern suburbs.

What is important to you? Night life, Easy access to transit to downtown Chicago, schools, shopping?

Thank you for your reply.

Safety, school are most important for me. Easy access to transit of downtown chicago is a plus.

Add Wheeling to that list too.

Deerfield and Northbrook are on the Milwaukee North Metra line which runs more frequently than The North Central which serves BG, and VH. THe North Central doesn't run on the weekends at all.

There are some sketchy apartments in Wheeling but safety isn't much of an issue in these suburbs.

Libertyville? It depends on your budget too. There is the AMLI Museum Gardens complex that is right on route 60 which would be perfect for Riverwoods but it's expensive.

The Green at Chevy Chase and the Wheatlands are in Buffalo Grove near Milwaukee and Deerfield Parkway. Very good schools, close to Buffalo Grove and fairly close to Deerfield Metra stations. Close to Des Plaines River Trail for recreation. You might also want to check apartments in Deerfield.

Thank you guys. The information are really helpful.
The budget is $1000-$1200 per month.
Haven't lived in Chicago before. How is the traffic, how is the driving in snow days? Do I need a 4WD car?

Sorry, too many questions...

traffic can be heavy but really depends on where you live and the roads you use. No need for 4WD, the snow plows do good work. Where are you moving from?

You mentioned schools, you might find corporate apartments won't let you rent a one bed place for more than 2 residents.
