Can anyone recommend some good weekend destinations for a family with young children? I'm looking for places within reasonable driving distance from Evanston. Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI is on our list already, but it is quite far and I'd like to gather some more ideas. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to go that far into Michigan to have a nice vacation. Weary of the long travel time to Traverse City, we decided to try the St Joseph area for a change this summer. It was quite nice, and there were plenty of kid-friendly things to do in town.

Wisconsin dells is for the most part the go-to place for drivable vacation destinations for Illinois residents.

Go to Warren Dunes in Michigan instead. Much closer, just over the Michigan border.
