The Hollywood portion of Brookfield shares the elementary district with neighboring Riverside. It is convenient to Hines (right up 1st Ave) and does have family sized rentals in your price range.

Berwyn's Proksa Park neighborhood is served by good elementary and middle schools (Emerson and Heritage) and is about 10 minutes from Hines. You could buy a solid brick bungalow in that area in your price range in this market.

Berwyn has some nice attributes. The housing stock is very good, lots of brick-on-brick bungalows. Though most were constructed quite a while ago (WWII) they've been mostly well maintained. There are really no "trouble spots" and commute to Hines is a straight shot down Roosevelt.
