Does anyone know how hard it might be to get a parking permit in Hinsdale for the Metra? I saw a post about Downer's Grove taking years to get a spot but couldn't find info on Hinsdale. If anyone knows the feasibility of parking near the train please let me know.

As always thanks for your help!

There are several threads on this.

The fact is that the "permit lots" are NOT the only option. Hinsdale wisely installed electronic daily fee lots near ALL THREE of its Metra stations and dependinging on how early you need to be downtown these can be an EXCELLENT option that bypasses the often decades long wait for a monthly pass at a price that is not all that much higher...

Much appreciated! I saw the Metra website with the lots - I just wasn't sure if you could actually get a spot. Sounds like there are several non=permit lots as well.

Thanks!

There is a phone # on the website, would have been a good start.

The "agent" phone is just for the main station, they would not info about the parking nor the unmanned Higlands nor West Hinsdale situation.

The Village might not have much accurate info to share about daily fee parking if the caller asks about monthly permits...

Naperville is notoriously bad because the stations there catch a large "catchment area" of park-n-ride commuters. I don't think the Hinsdale stations are under this type of pressure due to the "tighter railroad spokes" closer to the city, and the fact that there are a lot fewer sprawly subdivisions served by the Hinsdale stations.

Even out in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton we can still get parking at the station "day of" if you get there early enough. I know multiple people who use the Downers Grove non-permit lots as well, but they are usually parking before 7am. Time of day is a major consideration, since most lots anywhere will be full by 10 a.m.

If one is contemplating living near Hinsdale the fact that Mokena is approximately 45 minutes away makes this information (dare I say 'option'...) less than useful.
