I have noticed that in my daughters kindgergarten class, the teacher is out at least 2 times a week, basically they have a substitute 2 days a week. Who should I talk to about this? I am a little concerned.

I thought about that, but the principal already knows about it. I don't know how these teachers get away with this stuff.

Is it possible the teacher is splitting the position with another teacher and has 2 or 3 days off a week scheduled every week?

I don't know how much this varies district to district, but sometimes the sick time accrues year over year, so if they go years without using their sick time, all of a sudden they can use quite a bit of it without going into an FMLA situation if they come down with a chronic condition.

Depends on the district. Teachers generally get 12-18 sick days a year, a few of which can usually be used for "personal" reasons. Sick days typically accumulate. I taught in one district, and rarely took days off. By the time I left after 7 years, I had over 100 unused sick days. When teachers want to use more than a few sick days at a time, they are usually required to provide a doctor's note. Some districts don't pay for the unused time when you part service, so some people will try to use up their days, a bit at a time, before retiring or moving jobs.

There's a possibility she might be really sick and pushing herself to make it there the days she is able for the sake of your kid and the others. You could ask her in a "compassionate" way if she's ok and she might open up and tell you what's going on.

Usually sick time is accrued at 8 hrs per month or 12 hrs per month. My wife is a college prof. and she was able to use her time for maternity which allowed her a whole semester off paid. Now is going through a fight with cancer and with the sick pool and short term disability is off the entire year. But she is still working behind the scenes setting up the lesson plan, grading papers, administrative stuff, and doing research.
