Drive vs Metra commute downtown

When I was working very long hours, public transportation did not run as frequent during my commute times, so my commute became very long. I also did not feel safe, particularly late at night (ex. after 9pm), when I was often walking in dark areas that were poorly populated and I was harassed a few times on the trains. Late at night, the traffic on the expressways is down, and the driving commute was much shorter.

And when you work crazy long hours, your time becomes so so valuable. Getting home in 40 minutes by car is so much better than taking public transportation, which would sometimes take 1.5 hrs.

I am also one of the unfortunate ones that cannot read on trains without becoming motion sick, and it was difficult for me to try to listen to headphones on the very loud trains. So driving, with my radio/podcasts, was much more pleasant.
