I am looking for an affordable suburb with apartments within about a mile of a Metra station. It needs to be under about $800 for a one bedroom that allows dogs. North, Northwest, or West of the city is preferable but if that is not an option the South, Southwest, or even Indiana along the NICTD could work.

Berwyn has two metra stops. It also has affordable apartments along the Cermak Road corridor which you can hop on a bus to get to the Pink line.

I found one apartment in Berwyn about 2 blocks from the Berwyn Metra stop for under $800/mo. Its a studio though and is cat friendly but does not mention you can have dogs. I couldn't find any others in the near west suburbs along the BNSF in your range (in the very short time I looked).

Des Plaines maybe. $800 is a deep stretch for AH or MP.
