Honestly, if you are single/no kids think you'll need to "move on a dime" I'd recommend renting somewhere in the city proper. It's not like the buyers market is so hot right now that you're foregoing appreciation by renting, and being as unfamiliar with Chicagoland as you seem there is a good argument to renting, at least for a while.

Same here, first and only time I've ever heard of any alleged disdain for the term "Chitown" was in some article about a year ago.

I'm a native and have no issue with the term and use it myself on occasion. Now "Chiraq" is a different story, lol.

I vote Naperville. I can't see it EVER being in decline and you will probably never have a problem selling their either.

Any time I hear that word I just cringe. Sounds low-rent and cheesy.

If you like the term so much you want to get the tattoo, make sure it's spelled correctly.http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news...3/chitonw.html

Like Frisco. Ugh. That's a Dallas suburb, folks, not Baghdad-By-The-Bay.

Naperville, which a few people have mentioned, is a little far from O'Hare - same with Wheaton. Have you looked into Elmhurst or Bensenville? They seem to be reasonably trendy areas right now and they're close to the airport.

Here's another recommendation. If you move here, don't refer to Chicago as Chitown. Even if you don't move here, don't refer to Chicago as Chitown.
Is that really that stigmatized? I grew up in the city and I've never noticed. I don't mind it; I like affectionate nicknames. Doesn't Kanye West (also from here) use it?

Agree about Naperville and Wheaton. Not sure why those would ever be mentioned as "reasonable commute to O'Hare".
