Hi Everyone, I just signed a lease and am moving from Chicago to the Lincoln district. I have 5 and 8 year year old girls. I'm looking forward to the move for many reasons but particularly because I have heard good buzz about Lincoln, but nothing specific. Test scores look good but as other posts have indicated test scores sometimes don't mean much. The girls are coming from a Catholic school in the city that left us a little underwhelmed. What can we expect? I want to hear anything you have to say about it. Are there any current parents out there with an opinion, comment, or sage advice. Thanks !

I know a few sets of parents with kids in Lincoln, and they all say good things about it. They all seem to be quite involved in the education of their children, and like the teachers. The building is large and a bit run down, but it's a better facility than most CPS schools. I've never been inside the school, though. The grounds are well cared for, and there is brand new playground equipment.

I'll be curious to see what kinds of responses you get here, since this is a school district I'm interested in as well... If I hear anything else, I'll make sure to post it.

Default Lincoln Scool in Oak Park...What's your opinion

Thanks for the reply. I stopped by the playground this last weekend with the kids and let them run around a bit. Very nice outdoor area with the little neighboring park as a bonus. I looked through the windows of the school and I couldn't make out much, although it did look a little beat up but that's not too much of a concern. We hope to get in there for a quick tour before school starts. This is admittedly happening a little too fast for us. We don't get possession of our rental until the first of Sept. so we'll be driving the girls back and forth for about a week. Then moving begins. I'm not looking forward to that at all.

I was there too on Sunday. Were you driving a Range Rover by chance?

Me too. Well, not really... I don't want the silly car, but would like to have the cash. There was one other family there on Sunday using the playground, and they were in a Range Rover.

A colleague's wife works with all the OP schools and described Lincoln to me as a hidden gem. I have numerous friends who intend to send their kids there in a year or two and they are extremely well educated people (doctors and Ph.ds). Their friends with older children are quite pleased with the school.
