...the suburbs. Seriously, I love Chicago but I feel the suburbs hold it back, especially after seeing that disaster played out between Bensenville and the O'Hare Modernization Program. That project would bring so many dollars into the Chicagoland area but Bensenville and Elk Grove ended up costing both sides millions of dollars and delays. Then again the lawyers are happy and Illinois is an attorney state.

It's not a simple of live and let live. The suburbs directly and indirectly hurt Chicago.

Anyone agree?

I think all the Cook County suburbs should be annexed to Chicago. Not that it's likely to happen but other cites have expanded so; Lexington Ky and I think Indianapolis.

I used to think that way about the burbs too, back when I was a 312er (then 773er). Still, on the whole, I think the burbs are a net positive for the city of Chicago. You don't have nearly the degree of infighting between city and burb as in some other metro areas.

No, the zombies. Definitely the walking fiends that clawed their way back from hell in defiance of God's will.

Also, Chicago's 'burbs aren't so bad. I'd say the worst thing about Chicago is that the city has to pay for the rest of the worthless state it's situated in.

There are over 300 burbs in Chicago. Some are not desireable, some are amongst the best in the nation. Sounds like youre basing your ridiculous statement on a few suburbs. Without the burbs, Chicago would hurt. Without Chicago, the burbs would hurt. One hand washes the other in this case.

The suburbs are the worst thing affecting Chicago in many more ways than you can imagine. So I agree with the original poster. But I dont agree with the title "The worst thing about Chicago", hange it to "The worst thing affecting Chicago".

Oh no. That then would make Chicago density decrease to the level of Houston. Some suburbs(the dense ones) have potential to be annexed by Chicago, but not all of them.
