I'm flying to visit my Mom in Iowa this June. My 79-year old mother and I want to drive from Iowa for a brief visit to CHicago and she is worried sick about leaving her car for the 3 days at an Amtrak or Metra lot. We don't want to deal with a car in the city so are trying to figure out where we could park and take a train into the city. The websites don't say anything about more than daily commuter parking, and certainly not anything about parking security, etc. I'm thinking about going as far as Naperville unless someone knows of a great spot that would get us fairly close to Chicago but "still in a safe area" that's rural. We'll be coming near I-80 or I-88.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're looking for true rural you'll have to park beyond Naperville (maybe Elburn would fit.)

Thanks! I'm trying to anticipate what she thinks is rural i.e."safe"; does the Metra or amtrak run through Elburn? If so, anybody in Elburn know about the longer term parking situation at either station there?

Elburn is safe. Also safe is Geneva, which I know much better than Elburn. You can park long-term at the Geneva Metra lot off Route 31 (Metra / Geneva Station Information). Its the blue parking lot furthest to the right. Call the parking number (630-232-4736) for details about how to pay for multi-day parking.
