Hello

I am moving to Chicago very soon, I am planning to buy a condo for around a 100,000$. I'll be commuting to Chicago every day so I need a place 30 miles to north of Chicago's down town. The most important thing to me is safety.

I appreciate your help

Well anyplace north will likely dump you on to the Kennedy Expressway which is not fun to drive. I'd try to live close to the metra station maybe Morton Grove, Glenview, or Northbrook, on the Millwaukee North or Park Ride, Desplaines, Mt Prospect, or Arlington Heights on the Union Pacific Northwest. Try to be in walking distance of the train station as parking at them is at a premium.

In Evanston a condo around $100,000 will be very small and not in a great neighborhood at all. I might consider renting because your housing budget is very low. Last time I checked the MLS the cheapest property in Evanston wasn't below $100,000.

Honestly the slim pickins' in the sub $100K range in ANY desirable area ANY WHERE NEAR Chicago should be enough to get you to steer clear of potentially getting stuck with a place so decrepit or with a condo association so underfunded that "money pit" would be the kindest thing one could say...
