You're just naming this roadway? What about the other 100,000 roads around the Chicago metro area that are in dire need of resurfacing or bridges that have the concrete falling right off to the point that the ree-bar is now exposed such as the case on north bound Lake Shore Drive between Fullerton and Belmont. There is a small little bridge that I always get the lovely pleasure of sitting on stopped waiting for the light at Belmont which everytime I sit on this thing, I wonder how many more years it will be until it just caves in as most of the ree-bar is now exposed on the walls. Believe me there are plenty of roads around the whole area that are just as bad if not worse than 57. Ahhhh here's some wonderful IL construction at it's best. Doesn't this just seem so safe and secure? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie...,27.42,,0,6.13

Nah. I agree with you-but I-57 is in need of widening from I-80 to at least Rte 30 and preferably Sauk Trail. Needs to be 3 lanes in each direction.

Default Getting on I-57 south of Chicago??

Need to go to Champaign Urbana next week, and do not want to go the usual way on 294 to 80 to 57 ( WAY too much construction!)
Also do not want to go on 94.
Can I go down Cicero and pick up 57 WAY below the city????

Definitely. Hell, you can stay on route 50 and 57 will be a stone's throw away about all the way to Kankakee. When you want to get on, just look for a "To I-57" sign.

Thanks...do you think this is a good idea, or am I trading one crazy ride for another??? I have never tried this, always took 294 around the city, but now it is such a mess......

What time of day are you going? Cicero all the way from the Edens expressway to south of I-80 will be CRAZY slow. For a decent alternative from the north shore (I think that is where it says you live), maybe consider Lake Shore Drive to 55 to 94 to 57 if it is not during the main rush hour commute time.
