Hello all and thanks in advance!

I need info in regards to a move that is fast approaching! I live in Jackson,Ms and will soon be moving to IL (Plainfield to stay with relatives for a while) while working in Hoffman Estates. Any tips on best neighborhoods, commute and overall quality of the area would be greatly appreciated. Also is Hoffman Estates a nice area and what are other nice neighborhoods in the area.

Thanks,

Hoffman Estates is a nice, middle class town. It's very typical American suburbia. I've never been to Mississippi, so don't know what to compare it to.

I guess my thing is, I just wanted to know if Hoffman or even Plainfield would be a great place to live and raise a family. My relatives relocated to Plainfield recently and seem ok with it. They relocated from the Southside of Chicago.

Short answer: yes. Plainfield would be too far to live in long term. For a longer answer, give us something to work with. What are you looking for? What do you like about where you live now, what do you hate? What's your budget? Renting is probably a good option until you get to know the area.

Thanks,
Hoffman Estates is decent.

Schaumburg, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Elk Grove Village are areas near Hoffman Estates to look at.

The drive from Plainfield to Hoffman Estates is a long drive. It is about 40 miles one way (80 miles a day).

Well, in that case...i'm looking for something to rent. Preferrably, a two bedroom for (and i know the cost of living is higher) at least $1200 month. Does that seem fair? Maybe, even my max could possibly be no more than $1400. Of course I'm looking for a nice area, diversity really doesn't matter that much to me. I just want a nice area to raise my children. I was born and raised here and there's not too much that i don;t like. I guess I'm just looking for a change of scenery and the fact that Chicago does offer more growth opportunity in my field. I also want to experience the big city life, but i don't have to have that "urban" feel b/c for me, everything in Illinois is bigger than it is here, lol!
