True. And other tax revenues are down and many communities are cutting budgets, but.............................I still feel that there is no real sense of urgency to tighten budgets. More of, "well, lets make some cuts, but remember, we can always increase our revenue via property taxes" My services don't appear to have increased- yet my property taxes have increased $1200 in only 2 years. Yet, my salary has not increased, commissions are down and my out of pocket health care contributions are soaring!! I feel like the stone and that they are trying to extract blood!
Perhaps I am jaded because of Cook County Board and feel the local government has similar tendencies-even though that may not be true.

Most likely the cost of services has increased and/or you are not using all the services which are available.

Compare the detail of your tax bills, over time. More than likely, it's all about the schools.

I think rapidly escalating pension costs are a major contributor.
