Ok, so if there is a city where you don't want to own a property due to the government. It is Westchester. The people in the building department are such jerks. And what ever happened to it being private property so the government shouldn't be involved? It's not like the building is falling down because if it was than there would be a reason fixing the building. But no its not so gov should just back off.

Yes, they are strict. I know someone who sold a house there and the TOWN came in and told her to fix a bunch of stuff (code stuff) before it transferred to the new owners. GFI outlets, bannisters on both sides of the basement staircase, stuff like that.

They're doggone strict. My Dad's chimney had to be replaced because it was leaning. The clay liner was cracked. The mason said if it was any other town you could get away with it the way it was, but not Westchester. Sounds a little rough. On the other hand, you don't see much in the way of leaning chimneys in Westchester, or any other violations of the building code. (The last sentence is for those who might want to think Westchester is "decaying.")
